Sorry for reviving an "old" topic, but during the last few days, things at AVSIM have become even more ridiculous and absurd: Discussion of the Aerosoft CRJ had been allowed as long as it was in favour of Aerosoft. When posts became more critical because of the CRJ's bugs, flaws. and development shortcuts, the thread was closed, allegedly because it was considered advertising(!) as opposed to AVSIM terms of service. Now productive discussions have been inhibited, and all that's left is the Aerosoft CRJ advertising banner at the top of the AVSIM website ... (In the interest of full disclosure, I had been restricted from posting on AVSIM for two days, which was turned into a 30 days ban from accessing the site at all, including moderators' approval for all my future posts for an unlimited amount of time.) I'm terribly sorry to see how Aerosoft and AVSIM had been treating you, Chris. But it also seems that now Aerosoft and AVSIM are getting more and more of what they deserve. And my 12 Night Environment editions work like a charm and they immensely up my dusk/night/dawn flying experience. Thank you, Chris, for all that you have been doing for us and for your persistence. Cheers, Oliver

Hi Chris, It's a damn shame what has happened to this hobby and I mean the whole lot of it. I started simming back in 1985, I ran FS (from my Tandy 1000 computer) which came on 5-1/4" (I still have them) floppy discs. I even ran a Flight Simulator Bulletin Board Service called Trans-Continental BBS, it's in the BBS historical society listing... this was "BEFORE" the internet. 8-) I was with AVSIM since DAY ONE and those were some great times. Tough flight simming days, but none the less fun. I've seen this hobby descend quicker than a dive bomber on a target with all the nonsense, that's why some of the great ones no longer post on AVSIM and have moved on. OR the God like mod actually kicked some of these individuals out (due to their own ego for the most part) if you can believe that. AVSIM now has the rep of being filled with cry babies and fanboys... if you're not a part of either of those groups, you better be a "paying" commercial member or you're going to get slammed with just about zero help form the staff at AVSIM. I'm sure Tom is rolling over, damn shame...

i know you're all asking yourself whats the difference... Black Marble Vector Pack and Black Marble Vector for 3D Bridges? first thing first Vector for 3D Bridges pack is only available to those who bought 3D Bridges so they can swap standard vector with Vector for 3D Bridges, in Black Marble 3D Bridges we take the portion of the roads classified as "bridge" and render those to a 3 Dimensional Bridge above ground, the traditional way of rendering the "bridge" part of a roads is to render that "bridge" portion as flat road, this why we see intricate intersections as flat roads in Sim, in standard vector pack we also rendered these "bridge" sections as flat roads (the traditional approach), in vector for 3D Bridges we remove that "bridge" portion of the road completely! to make room for our 3D Bridges so they can sit nice and clean without a flattened "bridge road" below it, just as it in the real world, where there are roads going under; there will be one in Sim that is not a "flattened bridge", to make it even more simple; if you run Vector for 3D Bridges without 3D Bridge pack; you will have holes in the road where bridges go! Here we are looking overlooking KLAX ahead of us in default Sim, Here we are looking at Black Marble Base Here we are looking at Black Marble Base + Vector Pack Here we have Black Marble Base + Vector for 3D Bridges Pack without 3D Bridges Pack (you can see the difference here between the two as a standalone) Here we have Black Marble Base + Vector for 3D Bridges Pack + 3D Bridges Pack Here we are looking at Black Marble Base + Vector Pack + 3D Bridges Pack

First off, I can't believe my two very first posts ever in Chris' forum are just ranting and raving! But that particular point had me thinking a bit. How do the donors feel, when an AVSIM mod - an "individual" member of a board of three directors - shuts down their discussions and removes links to their freeware resources, particularly the ones for X-Plane? If I had been a donor over there, I'd probably feel ... not so good about it. But I'll leave it at that. Need to prepare my approach into TNCM now ...

The main draw for me to third-party sites such as Avsim or Flightsim.com was the file libraries. I've noticed what I consider to be a seismic shift in the flight simming world (certainly for the ESP-based platforms), is that there no longer appears to be a large number of highly dedicated (and very generous) individuals ready to give up their time to produce freeware. This is very likely due to the high level of quality products demanded of, and delivered by commercial developers, leaving simple freeware modelling and use of default textures to be considered as unacceptable by simmers. Add in the number of developers hosting their own very active forums (see this site as an example) and you can clearly see what causes third party site traffic to dry up. To mitigate this, a close relationship with one developer with an agreement to censor criticism or censor information of other developer products, could be the only method of their short-term survival. What really will be the death knell for these sites is a one-stop shop where simmers can purchase certain developers' payware, access a central cloud location for all of their purchases and updates, download freeware from a resource library, share configuration presets, log user flights, access a cloud-based hangar, discuss flight sim related topics on a forum, and more. That is exactly what has been developed and is apparently just months away from launch. Clamping down on discussion topics and removing links to other legitimate flight sim-related websites for more information will only hasten the fall in site visitors. Ah well, as is always the case, those who look forward and are willing to positively engage with customers are the ones who survive and thrive. Mike, a Tandy 1000? That was already old when I first used it, and that was a very long time ago!

I know Chris, That's why I'm done with AVSIM, I only post for you and B/M because the fan boys over there went way over the top (some don't even own the product) and the mods did "NOTHING". One individual actually slandered this company and the mods did NOTHING about it. All I can say is, they are lucky it's not my company... I'd sue AVSIM, the mods and the loser who slandered ( if this was ) my company.

It's simple you are not a paid advertiser over there so they will hammer you. If you paid them, their mods would be all over anyone who opens their mouth badly about one of their advertiser. It's kind of like the Clinton's, pay to play. One good think is most of the old timers have seen this for years and know better.

Very nice Michael. One question : why don't you run just NE California instead of the combo NE + BM ?
  19. 2 points
I wouldn't let it concern you too much Chris. After you have been giving your excellent support and keeping your software up-to-date for a period of time, the rest will be forgotten. Aerosoft cannot damage your program as long as you are consistent with quality and service. I always say that "cream" rises to the top and the "crud" falls to the bottom. (Not saying at all, that Aerosoft is "crud", just the false claims and rumors that are fabricated about you from frustrated customers that don't have a grasp on how good this will be for everyone). Like I said, I believe that you have made a great move by going independent with your line of products. I believe that you will make night flying in the simulators an addiction.

Chris, I believe you are doing absolutely the right thing. You make an investment to get your investment back and create profit. You have to have a business model that works for you to be here for your customers for the long term. You know what that model needs to look like. It has nothing at all to do with "greed". If a business can't consistently create profit, it won't be here to serve for very long and your customers will loose because we won't be able to purchase new products, get updates or get support. We see some very fine flight sim development companies like RealAir and Earth Simulations (God bless them), go out of business for one reason or the other, but the bottom line is that their customers loose all of the support for those fine products that were purchased, and we are all left out in the cold without support or updates. There is no apology needed for a business owner who takes his company in a new direction that he feels is needed for its survival. On the contrary, I commend you. You have a beautiful website that is well put together and some great and very needed products. (note: I still feel you could do a little better job in describing what exactly "Blue Marble" is and even show some before/after screenshots on the web page. ... just an opinion.) In the past, I have also purchased Night Environment from Aerosoft and Simmarket, but I have no problem whats-so-ever in re-purchasing those areas from your new store that has a business model that will hopefully carry the product line, with great support, well into the future. Well, now that I've spoken, I'll get back to playing with the settings on Black Marble . I believe I may be starting to get a grasp of it.

Let me tell you from a user prescriptive, I had Orbx night lights with FTX Global and openLC NA and Europe. Orbx night lighting is like chuck steak....terrible. BM lighting is like filet mignon, the finest you can have. I took off from SFO this morning around 0550hr local and was just blown away by the immersion factor, something I never had with Orbx night lighting. One thing you need to do if you use PTA is turn back down the Urban Night Lighting settings. I went from 15.00/1.75 to 4.00/2.00. I know many turned it way up with the Orbx stuff due to how dim it was. But you need to keep openLC and everything else (just turn off the stuff mentioned in the Orbx compatibility post) as they do other things you need.

It would be nice maybe to setup a forum to share light presets users have in their BM Manager. Colors, how many variations, etc... I see some good stuff around here and would be nice if people could share them much like they do with PTA presets.

Good day everyone. Excuse my English beforehand. Thanks :-) I would like to thank Chris and his team for great products and great work. When I occasionally read the contributions to Avsim and here ... so many people over it broke the stick. Definitely it was the way for them long and hard. But he did. Even if we do not know and divide half our globe apart, I want to thank you for your support in solving the problem ... I wish you and your team in the future a lot of success and satisfied customers like me.I look forward to other products. What you have proven with Black Marble + Vector is amazing and great and has added a new dimension to our hobby. Thanks, thanks and a nice day. Mila Czech Republic

Hi Everyone, I'll get a series of videos online taken from the various NE locations. This should give you an idea on the look and feel of Black Marble with Night Environment for any area you may be interested in. This video contains dawn, dusk and night flight at Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Orlando.

Because there is no post explaining how to access the support forum (and I have purchased $130 worth of your products) can you explain how one gains access? Again, a post explaining this should have already been made by you.

I'm disappointed, Chris - no Black Marble here.... Then again, Black Marble only works where there are actual roads! I'll let you and your team off!! Have a look for Station Nord at the north eastern tip of Greenland. It's a pretty desolate place. I have to say Blue Marble works very well - the area near the aircraft is an elongated oval rather than a circle, so the Blue Marble textures are very close at latitudes near the Pole: Cheers!

After a problem with BMM and sparse autogen, I got the 4 basic FSX road classes added. I fired up the sim and HOLY PHOTONS, BATMAN!! Bloody hell! Over KSTL A random take off from Nice airport, France. I now have some lights I can mess with - I need to increase the quantity of some of them. Thanks, Creative Design Studios!

Mark you buy each package by itself thats not an issue, only one support program is required, it will cover all your products related to Black Marble, (our system wont let you buy it again once you've already paid for support) Black Marble Base will give you the same controls you get with Vector worldwide, the difference is how much data you are managing; with Base it is only existing Sim data, Vector Pack removes all existing Sim roads and brings them back as complete data set in the same native format that includes every road in the world, all this info is already posted

Hi Everyone, Here is my latest video, you'll more than likely note I tweaked the highway lighting some more... I made them a little brighter. Now that I'm satisfied with that, I'll continue the work I was doing on the street lights. Tweaking is a beautiful thing when it all comes together.
  35. 1 point
FWIW NE has lights floating in air in FSX:SE. However, isn't that where the bulbs of many street lights are located - many feet up in the air on poles? Imagine if every lampost was drawn as a 3d object too!

I havent really done anything unusual.. My orbx has been installed already.. i simply ran base.. then ran vector.. then installed your orbx patch.. i then disabled the lights in scenery.cfg.. only thing i havent done yet is disable the lights in ftx central region panels yet. Its mainly the UTX where i have a few issues, as far integration and comparisons to the BM Vector

You are correct. I forgot that I use custom AG on top of all my photo scenery, so I do not have that ... Even with NE placed above all scenery.

Niiiiiiice Mike, let us know how things go with the scaling adjustments, and any recommendations.

Is black marble generating roads in daylight as well then? If its managing the utx data and utx is filling in the missing gaps, wouldnt you just let both active (not disable utx road data).. still slightly confused.

you can try to turn off service road class all together, or adjust the light size used with Service Class roads, it is likely the class you see inside airport bounds,

Hi, The lower the res of the monitor the higher you'll have to go on your AA settings... What happens when you go to 8xSSAA, does it get better?. I know it will more than likely induce stutters, but if the problem goes away that's part (hardware) of the problem. Do you have Orbx lights installed, is that what is flickering in the trees?. It's not just the screen (higher resolution), you need the CPU/GPU to run the higher settings on your new monitor. I don't have flickering:
